Checklist for a Hair Transplant Operation

Checklist for a Hair Transplant Operation

Hair transplant is a surgical treatment whereby hair follicles are taken from one part of the body and planted on another. The site from where the hair follicles are taken is called the donor site, and the place where they are to be placed is called the recipient site. The harvesting method varies but what is of importance is to ensure that the harvested hair follicles are healthy and will re-grow.

Many reasons can lead to hair loss but irrespective of what caused the hair loss, there is a high probability that hair transplant can bring back the hair. Most times, hair transplant is done on the head, and the grafted hair is removed from the areas at the sides. Among the main reason why people get hair transplant is for aesthetic purposes and submission to social pressure. The major cause of hair loss is aging, and people try as much as possible to reverse the effects of aging.

What to check before a hair transplant operation:

There are some questions that you require clear answers before you commit to getting a hair transplant from a particular clinic. If you are not contented with the reasons or answers given to your checklist, you can try another clinic. Your health and comfort come first. These are some of the checklist items to consider. They might not all be available but ensure quite a number are present.

The ten hair transplant checklist items

  1. The first and foremost thing is to ask for certification documents authorizing them to do that work unless their genuineness can be implicitly deduced from their operations.

  2. After you are sure that you are dealing with professionals, ask for before and after photos. How else can you know that you will get the best hair loss treatment? It’s better to be pessimist where your health is involved.

  3. Ask whether you can be allowed to speak with one of the former patients to get their opinion of the operation. Check out any written reviews and other website or magazines the clinic has been featured in. At this point, you should look for any proof that will make you believe that you are in the right place beyond a reasonable doubt.

  4. Once you are contented with their operations, ask their total cost, whether they provide aftercare medication or if they have a follow-up program to see how the patient is doing. Some doctors send officers to check on their patients at home.

  5. After you agree on the cost and you are comfortable to discuss your expectations with the doctor and let him/her evaluate their viability, are they realistic? Are you the right candidate for the hair transplant? How long will it take for the wounds to heal?

  6. You are now almost booking an appointment, and you need to confirm for the last time they did a hair transplant? Have they ever won an award of the best service providers in any category?

  7. Ask how many hair grafts you will require and whether they can all be harvested at once.

  8. Which of the two methods; follicular unit strip surgery and follicular unit extraction will be used and why? One involves removing one hair follicle at a time, and the other involves removing a strip.

  9. What are the possible side effects associated with the process? Can you be able to take scarring or unnatural hair growth? You should be prepared well psychologically to avoid stress if anything goes wrong.

  10. Ask whether there are any other alternative options they can recommend apart from surgery?

Before doing a hair transplant consider the following points:

  • A one week resting period is required: You need to plan for this to avoid a situation whereby pressure is piled on you to do certain things even before you recuperate.

  • If you have certain conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, it might not be advisable to take the hair transplant operation. Also, if you feel like you have any special condition, explain it to the doctor during the consultation so that you can be advised accordingly.

  • You need to discontinue the use of vitamins, ibuprofen, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines and all the medication associated with arthritis one week before the actual operation date. Also after the operation do not take the medicines for at least three days.

  • You won’t be allowed to do any type of sporting activities one month after the operation. Thus, if you are a sports person, you need to plan in advance what to do in the one month after operation.

  • All forms of ultraviolet radiations should be avoided until all the wounds are healed. Use ventilated hats if possible, but it is highly advised to wear them.

  • You might experience a mild headache after the operation, but the normal painkillers should clear the pain.

  • The hair transplant process is permanent.

The final take:

When looking for a hair transplant clinic, quality should be the priority thing to consider before anything else. Don’t go for a treatment based on pricing only; some lowly priced operations are compromised in terms of aftercare treatment and quality of machines used. Always ensure you visit professionals for your treatments.
